TTAW Awards

Well done to all those who walked away with a prize or got nominated for an award. It shows all your hard work is being recognised so well done. West Wales walked away with a number of awards from the event.<br />
<br />
Club of the Year was won by Mumbles Table Tennis Club based in West Cross Community centre. Over the past few years Andrew Jones, Jo Simeone and Stephen Heydon have done a great job with a number of youngsters playing.<br />
<br />
Coach of the Year went to Penlan coach, Roy Towell. Roy has done a great deal of work over the years producing a number of Welsh Champions. Roy is part of Betty's team and is doing a great job.<br />
<br />
Lydia John won Regional Player of the Year for West Wales with her great results over the season. Lydia has also worked extremely hard in training and also got selected to represent Wales this year as well as being Welsh Champion under 11s.<br />
<br />
This year we added two new awards to the event. Players player went to Lawrence John and Best Trainer to Marc Castro. Players player was voted for by the players tho thought deserved an award for their hard word and success throughout the season. The Best Trainer was voted for by the coaches. It was for whoever worked the hardest week in week out and always a pleasure to coach.<br />

A number of clubs, coaches, players and Volunteers have been nominated for awards in the up and coming Table Tennis Association of Wales awards held in Loughar Boating club, Swansea this coming Saturday.<br />

<span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-family: Cambria;">This weekend saw the Waterside Table Tennis
Club 1* U11 and U13 tournament n Southampton. Luca Caplin from the Mumbles Table Tennis Club
headed down to experience a new environment.</span></span><br />

<span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-family: Cambria;">From the outset in the U11 the competition
was fierce with players from across the South of England and London region
competing for the honours. The success of the previous week wasn’t to be
repeated with two close five set games in the group stage both ending in narrow
defeats, and subsequent wins not enough to lift Luca through to the
semi-finals. </span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-family: Cambria;">In the afternoon it was the turn of the U13
with a large turn out of local players, a large contingent from the Greenhouse
Club.  Luca was playing for experience, but produced his best table tennis of
the day to mix some stunning wins with close defeats after 5 sets. </span></span></div>

<span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-family: Cambria;">Overall it was valuable experience for Luca
and and a thoroughly enjoyable day. Comments were received from multiple
coaches regarding his concentration and involvement, both whilst playing and
umpiring, along with the constant smile on his face and the enjoyment portrayed
whilst playing. </span></span></div>

With all of Bettys achievements over the years the area she lives held a day in the local community hall to recognise all the great work she has done. From the turn out on the day it was easy to see how popular Betty is and how many people she has helped over the years. In the picture below this is just a small amount of trophies she has one from all over the world. <br />

Recently, Betty walked with the Olympic Torch through her hometown Swansea. Roy Towell (Pictured with Betty) helps Betty on both a Friday and Sunday night in Penlan Club. The partnership have brought through a number of Welsh Champions and Welsh Internationals and are still generating a great deal more.<br />
