The Greenhouse A and Swansea teams showed their strength by winning 4 out of 5 matches against the other regional Centre of Excellence teams, in a great night of competition at the Welsh institute of sport on Monday 29th of March. There were a total of 6 teams competing against each other, including Swansea, Cardiff, Greenhouse A and B, Gwent and North Wales. Time constraints meant the matches were played at a fast and furious pace.
The format was teams of 3 players, with each player having a single match against the same number from the opposing team. There was a real mixture of youth and experience competing, with young teams from Greenhouse and Gwent giving a good account of themselves but not getting the results they wanted. Greenhouse A, lead confidently by Connor Edwards, were unbeaten until there last match and looking good for the win until North Wales managed to pull off an excellent 2-1 victory. Alex Valyadis achieved his best win of the night against Nicole hall. Swansea had managed to beat every other team except Greenhouse A, after some close matches with Cardiff and Gwent. The team that travelled down from North Wales battled hard, with Gabbi Wan showing some excellent form to beat Caitlin Williams in a 2-1 win over Cardiff. Gwent had an excellent 2-1 win over North Wales after Angharad Phillips won the first match against a spirited Beth Roberts, with Ashley Perry beating Alex Valyandis and Jac Jenkins defeating Gabbi Wan.
All players showed good attitude during the competition and the event was played in the right spirit. Well done to all those involved.
