Matthew Francis (Swansea), Jac Jenkins (Pontypridd), Lydia John (Swansea) and Charlotte Slye (Ferndale) were the young winners at the Welsh Championships in Cardiff on Saturday the 19th.
Matthew beat fellow squad player Harry Langley in a tight U11 boy's final with both players playing out of their skin. fellow Swansea team mate Jake Simeone lost out to Matthew in the semi finals. Lydia beat Ael y Bryn's Bethany Brewer in the U11 girl's final round robin match.
Jac Jenkins had to fight back from 9-6 down in the 3rd set, with it poised at 1-1, to beat Swansea star Thomas Heydon 3-1 to retain the title he won last year. Tommy had his chances after the first set but Jac's experience shined through to narrowly defeat Tommy. Tommy beat Marc Castro in the semi final. Charlotte Slye ran out winner in the U13 girl's event by defeating Denbigh's Victoria Brookes in the last match. Lydia had a great day taking sets off both Charlotte Slye and Victoria Brookes.
Steve Hall won the Over 50's category with a fantastic display of all round table tennis which has seen him at the top of Vets events for the past 10 years. Glyn Kellow won the men's over 60's singles beating Vince Dragone in the final match.
Well done to all the kids who competed in Saturdays event. Luca Caplin, Liam Taylor, Marc Castro and Jake Simeone played exceptionally well. Well done to all the West Wales kids it was a great day!
