Club held the second Community Club Junior Grand Prix Tournament on Sunday December
2nd. The entry for the tournament was 1 up on the last event with 68 entrants
competing in all four age categories. Although players were mainly from the
Cardiff area the tournament did manage to attract players from Swansea,
Ael-Y-Bryn and Ferndale.<o:p></o:p></i></span></div>

Roberts cemented his place at the top of the points list with a victory over
Benedict Watson. Benedict managed to get some revenge for the last tournament
against Jack O'Duffy with a 2-1 in the semis, again these 2 boys produced one
of the matches of the day! The 1 set Consolation event was won by Ael-Y-Bryn's Ellis
Burgess.<o:p></o:p></i></span></div>

Swansea 2-0 to make it a double again. Benedict Watson came close to making it
a repeat of the earlier final but lost out 2-1 in a tight affair. The
Consolation event was won by Joe Williams.<o:p></o:p></i></span></div>

without losing a set. Macauley Morgan and Elliot Weinburg did well to reach the
Semis but both Chris and Lawrence John were too strong on this occasion. The
final, although the scoreline was 3-0 was a close match with both the first
sets being decided by just 2 points. Bethany Brewer took the Consolation title
with a 1-0 victory over Pouyan Javanmard.<o:p></o:p></i></span></div>

a lot of the Under 15's competing with each other with a couple of older
players joining them. The semi-final line up was Chris Griffiths v Jordan Rees
and Lawrence John v Macauley Morgan. Chris managed to tame Jordan's unique
penhold serves that proved difficult to others in the earlier group and won
3-0. Lawrence John also managed to win 3-0 against Macauley who was appearing
in his second semi final of the day. The final was a repeat of the Under 15's
final but the match was a much tighter affair. Lawrence held a 2-1 lead in sets
and also had match point at 10-9 in the 5th but it was Chris's day as he
managed to win 3-2 and take home his second title of the day. Lydia John took
the Consolation title beating Elliot Weinburg in a 1 set final.<o:p></o:p></i></span></div>

CARDIFF CITY TTC REPORT BY NATHAN THOMAS

<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 150%;">Sunday November 11th saw
Cardiff City Table Tennis Club hold its first Community Club Junior Grand Prix
tournament of the season. With 8 tournaments scheduled throughout the year
participants have the chance to accumulate points towards their final standings
at the end of the season with prize money on offer for the top 4 in each age
group. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 150%;">The whole tournament was
played in excellent spirit and with 67 entries it was a very busy day. Players
as young as 6 years old all the way up to 18 competed in Under 11's, Under
13's, Under 15's and Under 18's age categories.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 150%;">There were 2 players who
stole the show though with Joseph Roberts claiming the Under 11 and Under 13's
titles and <span style="color: red;">Lawrence John</span> taking home the <span style="color: red;">Under 15's and Under 18's.</span> In the
Under 11's Jack O'Duffy lost out to Joseph in the final after playing a superb
semi-final against the improving Benedict Watson. In the Under 13's it was the
Swansea</span><span style="font-size: 16px;"> based <span style="color: red;">Harry Langley</span></span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"> who had the task of stopping Joseph's run but was
unable to do so, losing in straight sets.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 150%;">The under 15's was a very
tight affair with a lot of the group matches going to the deciding set. It Was
<span style="color: red;">Lawrence John</span> and Elliot Weinburg though who battled it out in the final. The
match was tied at 1-1 and 9-9 but Lawrence kept his cool and completed a 3-1
victory. The under 18's saw a lot of the Under 15 players competing again with
the addition of a few older Juniors. It was <span style="color: red;">Lawrence</span> again who marched his way
into the final winning 5 matches in the group. His opponent this time was Tom
Goodhall who had also cleaned up in his group winning his 5 matches. It was an
extremely close final with neither player taking full control of the match and
<span style="color: red;">Lawrence</span> managed to pull through and take his 2nd title of the day 3-2. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="color: magenta;">A special mention must be
made of 2 players. Firstly Anna Hursey who at only 6 years old played some
really great table tennis way beyond her years! The other is Josh Stacey who
played exceptionally well without maybe getting the results that he wanted. He
twice lost out 3-2 to higher ranked players but he put on a great display,
especially with his speed and forehand topspins.</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

Congratulations to Ashley Wray from Carmarthen TTC who competed in the West Midlands Junior 1 Star Open Championships on the 27th October. <br />

Ashley played in the learning disability category, and WON!!!<br />
<br />
This competition was organised by the ETTA and the BRITISH ASSOCIATION FOR THE DISABLED which featured a wide range of disabilities from standing, wheelchair and learning.<br />

<span style="color: red;">CARDIFF GRAND PRIX</span><br />

Well done to our players this weekend who attended Cardiff Grand Prix at Cardiff City TTC<br />
<br />
Congratulations to Lawrence John who was the Winner of Under 15 and Under 18 category.  A very worthy winner who trains hard. <br />
<br />
A great performance by Harry Langley who reached the final of the Under 13.<br />
<br />
Anna Hursey made it to the Semi Final of the Under 11 and Lara Whitton to the Quarters of the Under 11 event, both came second in they're group matches.<br />
<br />
It was also great first Tournament for Francis Lewis of Penlan who showed great potential.  To travel and play in these tournaments is a great commitment so well done to you!<br />
<br />
Another busy weekend, Junior TCW in Cardiff on Saturday along with the future "HOPES" squad in training.  Then Sunday onto the next Dragon Tournament in Cardiff.<br />

BUSY BUT SUCCESSFUL HALF TERM BY ALL

<span style="color: red;"><b>NAMUR INTERNATIONAL DES JEUNES DE LA VILLE DE NAMUR 2012</b></span><br />

Check out the TTW Website for a full report but overall it was an excellent tournament for our players who played at least 7 matches throughout the 2 days.  Tommy Heydon defeated Martin Pierrard from Luxembourg to gain an amazing 16th Position out of a possible 24 and Lydia John again defeated Anouk Beniers fro Belgium club VTTL to secure her 21st place.  Lydia had a tough first day but had 2 excellent wins on the second day and she was delighted.  The standard in these competitions is extremely high we must learn from these experiences and take on board how our European Competitors handle these competitions both mentally and physically.  Wales finished 21 out of 24 teams with a very young squad!  Well done to all who represented Wales Chris Griffiths Laura Edwards Charlotte Slye Tommy Heydon Joseph Roberts and Lydia John.<br />

Some of our players travelled to Burton on Saturday with Lawrence John winning both Cadet and Junior competitions.  Anna also attended and did well in her Cadet group games.<br />

Lydia then travelled to Southampton on Saturday to compete in Junior County she was on top form after all her experience in Namur and won 2 of her games playing for our Junior County Team even though she is a very young Cadet!!! <br />

Fantastic feedback from all the camps that run and a great effort to get to these camps by all our or Regional Squad Players and their families.  Thanks to all who gave lifts etc so our players could attend.<br />

Entries for our Swansea Open are rolling in, we have a team from Stephen Gertson coming down from England and a family visiting from Ireland who are also attending.  Lets make it a great success and get our entries in to Dennis asap.<br />

Jude Whitton - Regional Development Coach

Last week I was appointed as your new Regional Coach - I have been appointed on a part time basis so over the next few months I will be developing my role to bring you as much information, news, developments from the TTAW as possible.  In order to do this I will be spending as much time as I can working with Ryan and Dennis to work out a plan for the area and allocate my time accordingly.<br />

For those who do not know me here is a little bit of my TT history I was introduced to Table Tennis at the age of 14 when my dad and brother played at Dillwyn Llewellyn TT club in Swansea,  I was coached by Janet Evans then Alan Griffiths.  At the age of 16 I had my first Welsh Cap. I played alongside Natasha Williams, Bethan Daunton, Laura Collier and many other amazing TT Players.  As a senior I continued to train travelling to Cardiff twice a week after work to be with the elite squad,  I played Swansea & Welsh League, Women's British League and European Women's League and in 2 European Championships.  My most memorable experience was travelling to China and Singapore to play for Wales in the World Championships and Commonwealth Games.  I am married with 2 wonderful children Lara and Finn and my Husband Matt is a great support,  I live in Llansamlet Swansea.<br />
I was quite a late starter compared to others but to me there is no age limit, as long as you have passion and are prepared to put in the hours you can achieve almost anything. <br />
