Early pacesetters in
the Premier Division are Penlan ‘D’ who got off to an impressive start
Defeating Carmarthen ‘A’ 29-9 with Martin Gunn winning 9-0, Matt
Lancey 9-3 and young Thomas Hayden showing good form to win 8-6. Penlan ‘B’
beat Carmarthen ‘B’ 22-10 thanks to Ceri James
winning 9-0. Penlan ‘E’ defeated newly promoted Cam
Gears ‘A’ 21-11 despite
Ceri Higgon winning
9-0 for the losers. Penlan ‘C’ beat Penyrheol ‘A’ 22-17 despite the best
efforts of Denis Bromage who won 9-1 for the losers.
Division One
produced a very close game between Carmarthen
‘E’ and Llanelli which saw Llanelli narrowly winning 24-20, Derek Summers
winning 9-5 before teaming up with Tony Tappin to win the doubles 3-1 thus
securing victory. Ammanford ‘B’ defeated Carmarthen
‘D’ 24-20 thanks to Mike Towell who won 9-3. Carmarthen
‘C’ beat Penlan ‘H’ 22-14 with Martyn Fenner winning 9-0.
In Division Two last
years relegated side Cam Gears ‘C’ got off to a good start by defeating Penlan
‘J’ 22-13, Malcolm Davies winning 7-3, but the best performance was by Lawrence
John who won 9-1 for the losers. Penlan
‘L’ beat Dillwyn Llewelyn ‘B’ 25-14 with Keith Baker leading the way winning
9-1.
Division Three saw
an exciting 20-20 draw between Penlan ‘N’ and Blaen-y-Maes ‘A’, Tony Averis
winning 9-2 for Blaen-y-Maes before teaming up with Andrew Agnew to win the
final doubles match 3-2 to secure the draw, Penlans young trio of Lewis Towell,
Shankly Ismail and Bradley Abraham all fought well in their first competitive
match. Penlan ‘M’ beat
Blaen-y-Maes ‘B’ 29-8 with Peter Morse, Matthew Francis and Harry
Langley all playing well for Penlan. Penlan ‘S’ defeated Penlan ‘R’ 24-11 with
Matthew Rees and Jamie Hill both winning 9-1. Penyrheol ‘C’ top the division
after an easy 30-1 victory over Penlan ‘C’.
The Preliminary
Round of the Tudor Jones Cup saw two exciting matches. Penlan ‘G’ recorded a
narrow 11-10 victory over Penyrheol ‘C’, with the scores level Tony Holt won
the last match 2-1 to secure the victory, this gave Tony
match figures of 6-1. Tata Port Talbot ‘B’ narrowly defeated premier division
Cam Gears ‘A’ 13-10, the match was decided when Kean Pak won the last game 2-0
giving him match figures of 6-1.
