Summer Development Camps

<div><br />The Summer Development Camps will be taking place throughout the summer at Carmarthen Leisure Centre. Dates for the sessions are Thursday the 28th of July, Thursday the 4th of August, Thursday the 18th of August and a Summer Tournament for all youngsters on the 25th of July. Cost per child is £6 and the session is running from 11am to 3pm. Try a new Sport Day!!!

<div><br /><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">QE</span> High in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Carmarthen</span> held a try a new sport day. Amongst a number of sports on the day Table Tennis proved again to be very popular amongst the youngsters. With around 30 to 35 kids attending a session every hour aged between 11 to 15 it was great to see so much table tennis being played. Throughout the day over 175 kids gave table tennis a go for the first time. Primary schools in the area not only had the opportunity to try Table Tennis for the first time but to play against an Olympian. Jazz Carlin Team GB swimmer attended the table tennis session getting involved with the kids for her first attempt at the sport. Jazz attended this years Commonwealth games in India and returned home with a Silver and a Bronze in the pool. She is currently number 5 in the world in her events and was one of 6 nominees for BBC <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Cymru</span> Sport <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Personality</span> of the Year.</div>

This was a great chance for our youngsters to gain some excellent training with a number of players across the border. On the Saturday the boys attended the Development day with around 27 participants. During the day they played a friendly match against the Regional squad.<br /><br />4 boys from the East were Ethan Walsh, Anthony Close, Jordan Ingles and James Knudson. They secured a 7-3 victory overall against out Welsh youngsters.<br /><br />In the a afternoon a tournament was held with 7 groups consisting of 3 players and 1 group with 4 players. The top 2 went through to the main draw with the others going into a consolation event. The tournament although very competitive was played in a great spirit. The semi finals of the main draw saw 2 Welsh v 2 English with Ethan Walsh knocking out number one seed Thomas Heydon and Lawrence John beating number 2 seed Anthony Close to quite fittingly set up a Wales v England finale. 9 year old Ethan played superbly in the final with aggresive table tennis taking it 2-0 against Lawrence. With 28 kids attending and 8 coaches the day could not have gone any better. With a similar set up to the previous camp we had a robot, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">multiball</span> and 3 practice partners. The coaches were Jason <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Peckham</span> (ex Welsh international), Vicky <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">Skeats</span> (ex Welsh International), Judith <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">Witton</span> (ex Welsh International), Simon <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">Oyler</span> (South Wales Development Coach), Dennis <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">Bromage</span> (Welsh Vets International and West Wales Director), Joe Morris (The Godfather), David Short (Bridgend Coach), Roy Towell (Penlan coach and brough through a number of welsh internationals) and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-error">Aled</span> Howell.<br /><br />The kids came from all over West and South Wales as far as Cardiff, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ferndale</span>, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-error">Brdigend</span>, Swansea and up to <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_11" class="blsp-spelling-error">Pembrokeshire</span>. This gave the prefect chance for the local kids from <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_12" class="blsp-spelling-error">Carmarthen</span> and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_13" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ammanford</span> to mix there practice partners up.
